an almost doula...

i don't know why it has taken me so so long to finish my requirements to become a certified birth doula through DONA, but it has. i am on the cusp of my deadline. i finally finished writing the essays needed and will send in all my paperwork this week. i am excited to have this under my belt so to speak. birth is a beautiful and marvelous thing which i am so honored to be a part of with others and hopefully so many more to come. i hope to use this skill of support to bless women who wouldn't be able to afford a doula or maybe wouldn't even think of using a doula....those women with unexpected pregnancies who wonder what the heck they will do, women with no support person to encourage them along the way, perhaps low income families who wouldn't dream of having outside support in this way or the teenage girl who feels all alone. i am excited to see where this tool will take me and for the blessings i will receive along the way by giving of myself. it is tricky right now in my life to use these skills and perhaps *that* is why i have put off becoming certified, but i see it's worth and even if i am only able to use these tools every blue moon or so at this point in my life, i hope in the future, it will be a much more regular part of me.

  1. Ooh, congratulations! I, too waited until the very last minute to complete my certification requirements. It was such a relief to send my packet in. And fun to be able to place the initials, CD(DONA) after my name.

    Happy Summer!
