if i'm covering my eyes you can't see me

what if this happens again. now granted, we were in humid panama, i was in high school,
and i just rolled out of bed [remember how i am in the morning?].
but seriously.what if this happens....
[my childhood friend just emailed me this photo today.
i can't believe i am sharing it.
i just want you to see what can happen with this crazy hair of mine.
this is why my family nickname is 'buzzard bate'
and whenever there was a refrence to my hair, 'rat's nest'
was always included]

then there is this. long wavy locks. i usually wore it up or in two braids. how long would it take to get it back here again? 2, 3 years? would i wear it up all the time? i just don't know. i would want it long, i don't like the in between stage....perhaps i could be a little more experimental with the growing out stages...
should i cut it or grow it oh what should i do?
i know in this photo it doesn't look too unruly, but it is. it's crazy. it's a mushroom. it's out of control. i wear a hat and it almost pops off now. should i just deal with it? 4-6 months from now it will be manegable. [i think?hope?] any opinion? stay short? go long?

  1. (i have secretly be dying to know what you hair looked like long....i think you read my mind)

i love it now, so fiesty. i love it mushroom. i love it long.

i feel as though i am in the same dilemma as you. today i was pondering--all i do is wear my hair back, but ohhh when it is long i will wear it down...will i?!?!

i think i will just let it grow and see what happens. i can always change it.

i have realized that the awkward stage is awkward because we focus on it. but if we just let that thought exit our minds....it isn't so awkward.

    (this is long. so sorry)
and i guess this really doesn't help you much....

  2. (SORRY!)
ps. remember those visions of you having beautiful long grey hair when you are older....why not have it now?
    that is all.

  3. you have the gift of great style and are quite obviously blessed with beautiful features, and so you can pull off short hair and still look wonderfully feminine and fabulous.

when i first saw a photo of you i thought, "oh, i love her hair!" either way, you are YOU and that will always come through. i've had short (close to my head pixie cut in college), medium, and now long hair. i really like the long right now...it's pretty low maintenance and still looks good.

    i know. no help. sorry.

  4. I, for the record, think the mushroom is really cute. I am sure you hate it, but I think you rock it! I'd also love to see you with longer hair simply because it feels like a novelty.

Verdict: At least you're already married and you don't have to postpone the wedding so you can grow your hair out.

    Love you!

  5. long! long! long! you know, I tell Freya that her hair, which is also thick and wavy like your picture, is "storybook hair" and you know, lots of people have short hair and lots of people have long hair, but really, storybook hair is quite rare. so pretty. the growing out wouldn't be that awful. think of the cute, messy pigtails you'll be making this summer!

  6. Ah, a sister who can relate to the awkward grow out phase. My nickname was Geshelda Shagnasty. I'm not brave enough to post some of my dos. One of which included a huge poof on top of my head where I decided to bleach my "bangs" which weren't really bangs because they just blended in with the poof. A junior high disaster. Anyway, enough about ME! I'm torn. I think your hair is great short, but I've never known you with long, so it would be fun to see. Either way. Why are you asking everyone's advice? You're not going to take it anyway! HA!

  7. oh geshelda shagnasty, you know me too well. um, i ask because maybe it will help me actually do it (go long) with the thought that if everyone said short, i would just cut it.

april. three longs. that counts for something....and storybook hair?! wow. i've always said i was a mermaid, i guess a mermaid should have long hair to cover her boobies. maybe i'll give it a try.

    maybe.
thanks for all the nice comments.
