technically last night was the turn of winter here in california, but today we are celebrating these first light-filled waking hours of winter. the long hours of darkness gradually growing shorter. love it!
though i've not ever been too good at keeping a long running project going or very good at new years resolutions (even though i make them) i find the turn of a season thee perfect time to start something new. this isn't a terribly lofty goal, i think it's attainable (see my tagline: simple & fervently non-overachieving!) and i hope you'll join me!
:: solstice to solstice ::
52 weeks focused on the seasons. each week one word will be shared that relates to the season (winter, spring, summer, or autumn) and each week we'll individually do something creative or focused representing/surrounding that word.
art comes in many forms. cooking, photography, poetry, paint, fiber, dance etc...
one word for the week.
13 words for each season.
52 weeks of personal creative/seasonal focus.
i will share the new word each thursday; (though be patient if i do it friday or saturday or even sunday!) sometimes our electricity goes out or our internet is down, i'm human & well.... c'est la vie.
an example: let's say the word is warmth. you could A. knit something B. take a photo of your mug of tea providing warmth to your tummy C. practice yoga until you really warm up D. create an anagram using the letters in w.a.r.m.t.h E. the possibilities are endless and i'm sure you would come up with something i could never dream up or imagine....the beauty of individuality!
you can share (or not) what specifically you do. i'll be sharing here in this space and perhaps open up a flickr group if anyone wants to participate. (here's the flickr group!)

photography is one of my favorite forms of expression and i have loved tapping into other mediums this past year. i am finally giving myself permission to call myself an artist, a habitual practitioner of the arts. making it a habit to practice (not perfect).
simple.
one focused, creative act each week.
join me!
considering this very short day of sunlight & the shift moving toward light, the word for this week is dark.
i love this idea. and i'd love to participate, sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteme, too! count me in! and if i forget, i know you'll understand. the beauty of grace. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this. Shared on FB!!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm in!
ReplyDeletei might sporadically join as time permits....i love you, artista!
ReplyDeleteSounds great...once a week is doable. And a good excuse to do something creative...
ReplyDeleteI was looking to start some sort of small and consistent creative project this year, and now you've offered one up. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah Jean! I found you through the awesome Tammy Bradley . I would love to join in the fun and create art weekly with such an inspiring group. Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteAll the love and light of the season to you!
This sounds wonderful! I'd love to join! Thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I am in.
ReplyDeletesome channeling of this artisitc inclination could be just the prompt i need to become an "artist" too. (i totally get the permission thing.)
ReplyDeletelove it sara! and the word dark is perfect. i just experienced the darkest dark walking down the hallway to the kitchen when i woke up this morning. and i love that you've given yourself permission to call yourself an artist, because you definitely are!
ReplyDeleteI want to join too!!! You are an inspiration. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely idea, and I'd love to participate (in an equally imperfect way!). thanks so much for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI find that for me photography is really relaxing. It helps me express myself. Most people draw or paint but photography has more a of technical aspect to it. You have lighting and effects. It just more of a modern art to me and is more fun to me too.
