this afternoon i read to my 2nd & 3rd born from one of howard zinns history books. asking: do you understand what racial justice means? what do you think abusive language is? any idea what "we have been plunged into the abyss of oppression" might be? phoenix answered to every question i asked with the same question, "just love?" "just love?" "just love?" i greatly questioned what was sinking in, what connections were being made, understanding... if any. i'd modify, add, skip over. posing 'imagine if' questions and 'what might you do's'.

i wrote this on our door this morning.

discussion & a key point:
non-violence. non-violence. non-violence. non-violence...

at the end of our reading i said, "just like on our board, 'stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear."

and phoenix whispered,
"just love."

  1. I just got goosebumps at his whispered words...what a gift to have them at home and turns these words over and over. I too know the feeling of "the sinking in" moments. Such treasures.
