m o m e n t s : :

the wedding we went to this past weekend was in central california at a vineyard. the mister officiated part of it, so he needed to get there a day earlier. i suppose we could have gone early too and camped out, but we didn't want to miss the last "class" day of nature studies or the final "test" Ocean got to take (or the river meandering elli was to do). O's class has been working on compass reading and following. the class was blindfolded, put into a few parent cars and driven to an undisclosed area, as the crow flies about 3ish miles away, as the car drives, though, about 25-30 minutes. the class found themselves in a meadow with their maps, compass and coordinates. they ate lunch, figured out where they were on the map, split into two groups and followed their coordinates. they would finish at our regular end of day meeting place if all went as planned. it did apart from one little hiccup. who would want to miss a test like that?!

okay, back to the wedding. the girls and i got there a couple hours early. it was hot, we wondered what we'd do in the middle of wine country other than hop from shady spot to shady spot before the wedding ceremony. not long after arriving however one of the employees of the vineyard asked if we'd want to play with kittens. she told the girls they were a bit feisty, frisky and quick, but she wanted them to be held by people. two out of my three were hesitant merely by the adjective feisty; one was full speed ahead.

(one went back all night long with any and everyone she could show the kittens to.)

she was convinced we should take one home; we let the wedding festivities
and endless 'yes' to lemonade wash the request away.

  3. Lovely. My own cat-lover would have been in kitten heaven. He and Phoenix are two peas in a pod. :)

I LOVE the mapping/coordinates exercise they did. I know a Marine who will be very impressed.
