moments : : earth day

week sixteen | day one

Happy Earth Day!

years ago my husband and i found getting a christmas letter out was just too much. by the time we started receiving cards and photos from others by the time we remembered to do it time was not on our side & it was too late, too close, too much of a deadline. so, we decided to start sending out Earth Day cards.  eric would write up a letter sharing what had been happening in our life, throw in a few quotes and in the end we'd share a recipe.  it's been years and years since we've sent out one of our Earth Day letters (c'est la vie) but i was thinking about it today as i was browsing the nom nom paleo app and whipping up a yummy recipe watching the snow start to fall (almost immediately after taking this photo above).

i'm not going to update you on what's been happening this past year or even share a quote (how about a poem instead!) but i am going to share a recipe (the recipe that we made this afternoon). these spicy tuna cakes are nom nom delish!  speaking of nom nom (paleo) and speaking of food i have to share: this really is a no fail moon egg (that's what we call hard boiled eggs) making.
no fail i tell you, no. fail.

When I Am Among The Trees

When I am among the trees,
especially the willow and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, "It's simple," they say,
"and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine."
