this is my grandma sweater, also known as, the acer cardigan.

i call it my grandma sweater because i imagine one day when i'm old & grey, i'll sit on a bench near the sea's edge wearing it, keeping cozy from the ocean breeze. probably knitting; surely dreaming of what once was. i also call it my grandma sweater because my grandma jean inspired me when i was young with amazing cable knit sweaters. she made one for my cousin trisha, a big beautiful natural colored fisherman sweater. i was in love. when she could, grandma took me to pick out yarn so she could make me one too. we chose bright teal, thought the color would suit me & it totally did. a big beautiful teal fisherman sweater. one sleeve longer than the other. a total treasure.
somewhere along the way my sweater from grandma jean got lost, misplace, left behind. however the story doesn't stay sad for long, adding to the magic of my time in northern minnesota, on the shores of lake superior, my cousin trisha gifted me with her big beautiful fisherman sweater from grandma. one sleeve longer than the other. treasure beyond treasure.

this, my first cable sweater, was knit on US size 6 needles out of Cascade 220 super wash wool. the pattern was impeccable (no sleeve longer than the other), cable chart easy to remember and made completely seamless (i decided to do top down short row sleeves vs. set in bottom up). the buttons were purchased at our local Harts & (i believe) are made out of recycled paper!
