we spent the afternoon playing at the beach with friends. playing and laying. laying in the pebbles running our hands over the smooth stones picking and choosing favorites out of a million treasures to be found. playing and laying and sorting and exploring.
when we got home and darkness settled in we kept playing. playing with light. we had never tried this before, but prompted & inspired by the e-course i'm taking, i thought i'd give it a go.
"Play is the exultation of the possible." ~M. Buber
who knew it'd be so easy and fun to draw and write with light?!
today i noticed one of the gals at the gym had recently cut some new fringe. it's adorable and i complimented her on it which led into a conversation about her feeling old and the new do as a way to keep young, hiding what some would puff out with botox (yuck!). she's a year older than me (i'm 37). i told her of my good friend who just turned 42, feeling the best she's ever felt in her life! my brother who just turned 41, who spent his last birthday running an ultra marathon and continues to have fun running long distances, cross train, hike insane mountains and live super healthy. i've always thought my 50's will be my prime of life, and in the meantime i'm going to remember:
"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." ~George B. Shaw
and i will keep digging in the sand, swimming in the sea (or lake if i'm lucky), trying new things, frequenting the box, pulling out the board games, playing.
I love this, the lights are amazing! Is it just a super long exposure and you draw it in air? (Also, bring on the board games!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm 37 too and don't want to quit playing. I've been afraid 32 is going to be my favorite age. Thinking about doing the Now You workshop, thanks for sharing this look into your life.
ReplyDeleteLOVE these of course but i especially love these quotes. so very true. coming or this old lady at 41 who just cut her fringe too and is feeling younger and sassier for it. XO!
