ever since we bought our new to us bicycle rack a number of weeks back, we have been able to go on bike rides other than just around our home. we've been down on the cliffs by the ocean, streets and neighborhoods, and in our backyard. the other day we went here to get some fresh air and discovered the natural history museum behind the camp store. wow! talk about a find!! it has plants identified, animals and all the birds identified, land formation laid out in a model with the different types of trees that cover the certain places of land, history, activities, fossils, skulls and other bones....the list goes on. it was so neat. we spent quite a long time just looking and discovering. then we hit the trails so to speak....(one is not allowed to bike on trails at big basin, but is welcome on all the fire roads and paved streets...) we went a few miles through picnic area's we had never been. found lots of banana slugs. looked for burl on trees. rode through big puddles. made plans to return soon. we like to bike. i am so happy we can do it again. when we lived in portland we rode most places. i miss that living out in the woods...riding to the store, friends home, the neighborhood park. this is a good compromise, because like i said, we like to bike yet we love living in the woods.
