living with, without.

well, my wish was granted. a balance was struck and our power was out for a few hours short of one week. it went by fast. it was quiet. it was peaceful. granted the first two days, i will not forget because i am writing it here, i was definitely the momma grump miester, aka. pms. we read books. we snuggled on the couch. i knit. the girls played. they needle felted. he worked (in town). we continued and finished celebrating the 12 days of christmas. we went into town on that day for breakfast at our favorite place, zachary's. we also went to the movies and visited a coffee shop where we drank warm drinks and read more books. there was a group renting the camp facility so water went quickly. it had to be saved, so we bought bottled water and took on that toilet motto: if it's yellow let it mellow if it's brown flush it down. i truly don't mind the power being off. (let me add right here. i loved my headlamp before this past week and really love it now, but it fell and broke and it is not fixable...sad sad moment, i will replace it soon and keep the old one with all it's fond memories {yes, i love it that much}). moving on.... the water was a bit more difficult though, but good grief, i could just buy bottled water. it was only 6 whole days. not 2 weeks, or a month, not a lifetime. i have it made in the shade even without these common amenities. lighting the candles, boiling the water to wash the dishes, not showering, keeping food outside to stay fresh and cold, bringing in firewood all made me appreciate and be so thankful, not miss and 'wish i could have it all back now because i can't live without it'.....just a feeling of gratitude. the power is back on, but the lights are out....the water tank is full again, but phoenix is okay now sharing a flush.

  1. The pirate hat you made for Elli makes you my new hero and inspiration! Since seeing that on Flickr AND your first attempt (oh my goodness could you be any more talented!?) at a Fair Isle I have been obsessively looking up different knitting patterns.

So thanks for being my inspiration. Love you and your creative genius!
