solstice to solstice :: autumn week 1 w/ prompt

because of who i am and where i grew up (minnesota) the word autumn is not the word autumn without changing colors, crisp air, warm drinks, football games and a red runny nose.  some things never change like the runny nose or warm drinks.  however, moving to california eons ago, autumn was simply not autumn in my book.  the trees were still green, i could still go lay in the sun at the beach, and somehow surfing was the new football.

it was hard, i was home-sick, i missed the change amidst all the change.
with age come wisdom and one starts to appreciate the little things more.

there is one tree that has been faithful over the past 9 years of living back in california (we moved back to minnesota for a couple years then up to oregon for a few more years than that) to give me autumn.   it is a few miles away and changes before my internal seasonal clock thinks it should.  it is always consistent, always bright, always red.  i love that tree.

  2. I just came to your blog from Rhythm of the Home and am so glad I did! I spent my childhood living amongst redwood trees in Northern CA too and, though I now live in beautiful Oregon, still miss CA at times. I just learned of your Solstice to Solstice project and it's such a nice idea. I joined the flickr group and will try to post solstice pics on my blog too. Thanks for the inspiration!
