moments, makings and musings! all in one

. . .
the promise of spring has been showing itself.  we spend time each week by a pool where the girls practice with their swim team.  the petals float down landing in my book and on my lap as i read, watch and close my eyes for a little rest.  walking under a grove when we leave where it feels like we're being snowed upon only it's warm, sunny, bright and we are in flip flops and cardigans so unlike photos and news reports i see from the other side of our country and north.  the promise of spring has been upon us for some time through this mild dry winter here on the west coast.

. . .

i felt inspired by these blossoms and the promise of spring so i knit a little hat.

. . .

the bottom textured part is representative of the petals piling up and/or i also envisioned the piles of melting snow that were so prevalent of my childhood.  ...i would wait and wait for the packed snow to melt just enough for patches of asphalt to be revealed so i could don my roller skates and side hop puddles and patches of ice.  the glorious feeling of being out in a sweatshirt, chilling my little nose red but delighted to be breathing in the fresh spring air and witnessing the promise of new growth (and adventures).

. . .

the bottom of the hat will keep your ears warm as you trudge through the mud, while the blossoms on  top will act as little vents as you work up a sweat (trudging through said mud) and remind you of what is to come.  new season, new growth, new life, new adventures, new beginnings.

speaking of new beginnings i've been mulling over the idea of hatching a little online shop.  the easiest right now seems to be Etsy, so that's what i'm doing.  i've been very interested in the 'slow fashion' movement, thinking, watching and dreaming.  listening to a NPR show the other day on 'fast fashion' solidified my interest and desire to be moving in that direction, not only for myself and family but offering items to others as well...slowly.

right now i have this 'Promise of Spring' hat available as well as an adorable little shawl made out of the most lusciously soft yarn in a beautiful bluish green colorway (which i will share another day).

Promise of Spring is made of out of 100% wool and is totally one of a kind, i don't think i'd be able to duplicate it if i tried (even though i wrote down mostly what i was doing...that's the caveat, 'mostly').  it has  slight slouch and can be worn with the bottom rim rolled up just a little for more fit.  i'd say it's a size s/m.  i could wear it or my daughter!

if you are interested you can hop over to my very basic yet to be 'made my own' Etsy shop called Wilbur and Fern!

here's to new beginnings!
