Tonight was one of the best in some time. Laughing i almost pee'd my pants sort of fun. Just me and a good friend who's a decade younger than me....well almost a decade...and i only say that because every birthday of mine we say "10 years between us! TEN years!" and then when her birthday rolls around in january we say "9 years! only 9 years between us!!" Doesn't even matter though, she's awesome and i love her and she's real and we had an adventure and good conversation. Here's the part i really need to write down so i remember. i know i have photos to prove what i am about to share is not something i created in my mind, but something we survived and are living to tell about now but at this point the camera isn't working. So after checking out a video said friend made, being patient enough to find a parking spot downtown on a very busy thursday evening and eating some food we decided we needed an adventure. Skinny dipping? Nah. Roller coaster? Maybe. Spithole? Yes. The spithole is a place on the cliffs that i used to frequent for fun. It is a hole in the cliff that water shoots up when a big or smaller wave comes...sort of like old faithful. Years ago the city, i assume, covered the hole with a big boulder, but we wanted to see if it was still there and if perhaps we could view the hole even if the big boulder was there. I thought it was near sacramento street so we checked out the cliffs near there with no luck, so we walked up a little further and found the spot. Found the hole. Found the adventure. The hole is now covered with a big concrete piece that has plastic cylinders from top to bottom to allow air to still flow freely. A wave came and water spray/misted up through the cylinder with a very loud sound. It was a bit freaky, but exhilarating [remember, we are right on the cliffs....close, very close to the ocean]. She asked me where my camera was and i had left it in the car, we decided it was a time worthy to capture not only in our memories [we hope] so we raced to the car, got the camera and headed back down to the spithole. The sun was starting to set, we took a couple photos of ourselves with the ocean and spithole behind us and noticed a big wave coming. We braced ourselves and i started snapping photos of the wave coming....it was going to be LOUD......the wave was big. it hit the cliff. i don't even know what the spithole did with it, i don't even remember what it sounded like because the huge wave rose above us and crashed down on us. [okay. really it crashed really hard against the cliff and sprayed us like crazy, but what if we had been swept away? What if we got sucked into the ocean and then sucked into the spithole? What if? What if???] i tried to cover my camera the best i could while not being swept away [if you know me at all you know how my imagination can be], but we were drenched. Soaked to the skin. We scurried up the cliff as fast as possible to get out before the next big wave in the set. We laughed and laughed. We looked at each other and laughed. Fingers are crossed the camera is still able to operate. Memories were made. It was so fun.

I forgot about the blow hole. Have you also been to the little shelf on the cliff, just big enough for two.
