i made the original pattern of this favorite knit just about a year ago. last summer i remember the giddy feeling i had as i pushed the purchase button for my first quince & co order. it was their linen yarn called sparrow in sans (now they have several different colors to choose from). it has been used as a scarf, shawl, bolero and blanket, as well as, shade. it's been worn and loved a lot in this past year since it's making. the pattern was loved so much it was my first pick when making a bride to be's something blue. after making the blue shawl (and leaving out the cable twists) i was completely hooked on this pattern. rarely do i make something again, let alone three times!

i found that although i wear, use and love this shawl as a triangle i wanted one without cable twists & in hap shawl form. hap shawl form is the shape of taking a square, putting a big X from corner to corner and removing one of the four triangles from it's place. the sides can wrap fully around your shoulders (which is why i made a hap shawl for my mom, it's like getting and giving a great big hug). ocean was also knit a hap shawl as well; the first shawl i ever made. little did i know when i finally finished that shawl of her's, that what seemed to take an exponentially long time, i would go on to really enjoy knitting shawls. if i'm remembering correctly i've knit six since then, including this most recent 3/4 hap of mine (though excluding the one on my needles now).

what i'm trying to say is i like knitting shawls & i love love love the result. this particular one i don't want to take off. i want every morning and evening to be chilly enough that i need to pull in on and around. the yarn is wonderful, incredibly easy to knit with and wears so well. it is, like "something blue," one of my favorite knits ever.

i used quince & co's finch in gingerbread; knit on size 8 needles.
